A Long Weekend

Last week was shaping up to be any other, normal, busy week for us. Playgroup on Thursday, a relaxing Friday, a busy weekend with church and family....

As of Thursday morning, I experienced a very scary episode that led me to believe there was something wrong with my pregnancy. I rushed to call my midwife, who told me to contact the OB I was working with (there were weird antibodies in my blood from when Lukka was born, so the OB specialist was just going to check my blood every few weeks to make sure it didn't get any higher in concentration) who could get me in right away. An ultrasound later, he prescribed bedrest for Thursday afternoon-Monday afternoon, when I go in again for a check up. Needless to say it's been a long weekend with a rambunctious toddler, and trying to maintain a clean house for people who wanted to see it today (although we changed it to tomorrow). Thank goodness family came to my aid and my SIL watched Lukka Friday morning and my mom came over Saturday morning and this afternoon.

On Thursday, during the ultrasound, he said the baby looked healthy, had a strong heartbeat, and was growing to proportion of how far along I am--all good news, but a scary event none the less. At this point, there is nothing anyone can do, either the baby makes it through, with a healthy birth (95% chance) or there are complications. I know many people were praying fervrently for us and this child, of which I am grateful. I have much more peace putting this in God's hands than I did on Thursday afternoon. I am learning how so many things can go wrong, and still, nothing is wrong with the child--which are miracle situations in themselves, really.

*Update*
As of this afternoon, I am officially off bedrest, baby's heartrate and stats are great, and there is now only a 50% chance of the "weird antibody thing" coming up in future weeks (as opposed to a 100% chance! That is a lot better!) due to Stefan's bloodwork. We also have a gender....but no telling until next ultrasound (Oct. 7th) as the technician was only 90% sure, "Don't buy any clothes yet, it's still very early, but it looks like it's a ____!!" You'll just have to wait and see! So good news all around.

How To: DIY Sand/Water Table

How To: Build A Sand/Water Table for Under $30 ! Sorry this took me so long to blog, but I had to have a tool list and full instructions before I could do so. A little history on my love for the sand/water table . I love the idea behind tools for tiny hands, i.e. the Montessori Method , and like to have Lukka 'figure things out for himself', even when he is playing. I try to have the most simple and basic toys available for 3 reasons: a) simple toys generally have less parts, which means less of a hassle for me b) simple toys inspire way more creativity and imagination than do 'exact replica' toys c) they are much more aesthetically pleasing to look at, therefore, not making every nook and cranny of our house an eyesore! I know the last reason is just for me, but it's true. Plastic things don't generally last 1/2 as long as wooden or fabric toys, and they are unattractive. For this reason, I started to look for a wooden sand/water table as opposed to a pl...

We've Gone and Done It

We are in the midst of packing up, and moving. Not just any move, but The Move we've been trying to accomplish for years now. We're heading up to (Washington) Canada. In the last couple of months Stefan had been talking to a potential employer up in Richmond, British Columbia , and after a very swift interview process they offered him the job. Small and large details aside, he accepted and plans to start on February 25th. We leave one week earlier, on the 18th. That's literally just over 2 weeks from when you will read this. We told family and close friends first, and while we haven't been keeping it a huge secret, our church, as a whole, did not know until last night because it was then we could tell everyone at our seasonal congregational meeting what our plans were in person, and with many of them all at once. I didn't want to say anything online until that happened. We've been steadily spending heaps of time with friends and family, all while slowly p...
