In Review: (500) Days of Summer

I'm going to let you in on a secret. I knew before I watched this movie, I would think it was cute. It has a killer soundtrack and two of my favorite actors and an IKEA cameo. I don't mind telling you that the only reason I will watch Elf is for Zooey Deschanel (still waiting on her full-length cd!) and I've got a thing for female scratchy voices. I love listening to them! Enter in the awkward Joseph Gordon-Levitt (10 Things I Hate About You) and some karaoke and you've got a movie that has been nominated for 2 Golden Globes. But let's be honest....

I really just wanted to see Zooey's wardrobe. She's got killer taste!

Girls--of course you'll want to see this movie! It's a cute comedy with a very good ending, narration Pushing Daisies-style, and a really interesting format (side-by-side "reality" & "imagination" for example). Even Stefan liked this movie, and he generally thinks my romantic-comedies should all be burned. Don't even get him started on Juno! :) We really liked this story, it's not too long, and it gave me tons of inspiration just from listening to the music and is a very 'pretty' film. Go see it!

I really dug this movie. I felt like it was a "chick flick" for guys. Cutesy, romantic, funny, etc., but it's handy to show women that they can be horrible too. All the stuff they do that seems okay hurts guys like the main character in the movie.

Did you notice that Zooey's character only wears blue, and she's the only character who wears blue (other than in the dance sequence)? I didn't notice when I saw the movie, but I read an interview with the costume designer where they were talking about the clothing choices. I thought it was interesting. :)

Also, you do know that Zooey has a band called She & Him, right? It's her and M. Ward and it's great. They have one album out called Volume One. And Volume Two is coming out this March! Woohoo!

it's a very fun movie, alternately/simultaneously hopeful and depressing.

I would just like to make one small correction; the male lead is Joseph Gordon-Levitt, not Jordan.

whoopsie! Corrected, thanks. I always get his first name wrong because I remember the "Gordon" part, weird, I know! :)

My children have recently become enthralled in the world of board games. I was never a board game player. Sure, I remember long summer hours (days? it seemed like it..) spent around a Monopoly board, but I was never one to suggest to get out the cards, or a game. Home School Resources: Links we Love

It's a list of where I find games, books, crafts, and fresh inspiration. Also included are articles I've loved about home schooling. One of my favorite websites about homeschooling, updated daily, is Simple Homeschool . It's a shoot off branch of SimpleKids & SimpleMoms, and they often have great giveaways, advice, and have concise and interesting topics. A friend recently guided me to World Book Online to find the general requirements of each grade. At the curriculum fair I went to in April, I remembered two vendors that I want to revisit if they return. One was Hepner's Legacy and the other was Miller's Pads and Papers (don't be fooled by the poor websites, they have great products at good prices). TED Talks . Go. Watch. Now. All of them. Awesome. How To: DIY Sand/Water Table

How To: Build A Sand/Water Table for Under $30 ! Sorry this took me so long to blog, but I had to have a tool list and full instructions before I could do so. A little history on my love for the sand/water table . I love the idea behind tools for tiny hands, i.e. the Montessori Method , and like to have Lukka 'figure things out for himself', even when he is playing. I try to have the most simple and basic toys available for 3 reasons: a) simple toys generally have less parts, which means less of a hassle for me b) simple toys inspire way more creativity and imagination than do 'exact replica' toys c) they are much more aesthetically pleasing to look at, therefore, not making every nook and cranny of our house an eyesore! I know the last reason is just for me, but it's true. Plastic things don't generally last 1/2 as long as wooden or fabric toys, and they are unattractive.
