19 in 2019 // Intentions for the Year Ahead

view from the top of Salt Spring Island, BC

I always love making an intentional list for the year ahead, but as I've been reflecting on the past year in my personal time, along with reflecting on our past half of our homeschooling year thus far, I've staretd to jot some 'things' down for this year as in years past, but I haven't been able to fill up the whole list and I have no idea why.
Maybe it's that I don't feel I have the brain space, maybe because it's nearly Feb. 1st already and I'm feeling behind already, or maybe it's because I just haven't let it sit and stew enough. That's ok. I'm learning to just go with it. I have about half.  I add to my list in my bullet journal, I more than likely won't remember to edit this post but (shrug), Oh Well. Such is life!

19 in 2019 (or, ahem, a few less)

1) Watch Lo & Behold technology docuseries with Lukka. We watched Cosmos last year and that was a wonderful experience for us both. He's such a tech-lover and I love documentaries; that equals some great quality time for us.

2) Go to the New Media Gallery again, but take the whole family. Complete! We went for the amazing Reclaim and Detritus art installations. I knew the kids would love it and Stefan might enjoy it. He didn't. HAH! He's not much of a museum person.

3) Take Anikka to the Vancouver Art Gallery. This has the most unfortuante acronym, but it's something I've wanted to do for years. I've never been, and she and I love art. Another quality time thing I can do for a specific child--always worth it.

4) Girls trip: Arkansas!  Museums, bbq, horses, hot springs, shopping, girl time, oh my! Enough said.

5) Read All The Light We Cannot See by Anthony Doerr because everyone I've heard loves this book. And I want to make an effort to read it!

6) Go snowshoeing with friends. I wanted to do this last year and couldn't quite get to it before the snow melted. I'm sending out some emails after this blog post!

7) Bike in Whistler or Squamish in the Fall. Our family did this in 2017 and we really enjoyed our long day trip up there on the gorgeous Whistler bike trails. I want to make an effort to do that again because doing something seasonally in Fall fills me up big time.

8) Start planning a BIG TRIP. Details to come, but it's gonna' be a fun one...just the planning stages. The trip won't happen until 2020.

9) Read the Penderwick series to the kids. I have wanted to read the first of the Penderwicks books for quite awhile myself, and then when I realized it was a series I thought, "yup, those will be our summer series!" I'm excited.

10) Finish homemade frames and start to punch. (Started) I have had Stefan cut me specific frame sides and I've taken the time to glue them together. I've bought the monk's cloth and I need to stretch and staple it before I can start punching my own creations. I love Arounna's work and she has a book coming out in Feb. that I am for sure getting myself for my birthday!

`11) Finish all my old Taproot magazines. I have a solid 3-4 that have been waiting for me for well over 12 months. It's a 'deep-dive' magazine that I don't skim, but read front to back and I just want to get them off my side table. I really enjoy them but decided to skip my renewal and catch up.

12-19) ??? TBD

I hadn't heard of the Panderwick series but am going to check it out.. my boys might enjoy it.

I have read All the Light Cannot See and it is not a light read.. and while it was beautifully written there were also some very drawn out parts.. and I was not a fan of the end.

I don't mean to discourage you from reading it.. just my thoughts.

How To: DIY Sand/Water Table

How To: Build A Sand/Water Table for Under $30 ! Sorry this took me so long to blog, but I had to have a tool list and full instructions before I could do so. A little history on my love for the sand/water table . I love the idea behind tools for tiny hands, i.e. the Montessori Method , and like to have Lukka 'figure things out for himself', even when he is playing. I try to have the most simple and basic toys available for 3 reasons: a) simple toys generally have less parts, which means less of a hassle for me b) simple toys inspire way more creativity and imagination than do 'exact replica' toys c) they are much more aesthetically pleasing to look at, therefore, not making every nook and cranny of our house an eyesore! I know the last reason is just for me, but it's true. Plastic things don't generally last 1/2 as long as wooden or fabric toys, and they are unattractive. For this reason, I started to look for a wooden sand/water table as opposed to a pl...

We've Gone and Done It

We are in the midst of packing up, and moving. Not just any move, but The Move we've been trying to accomplish for years now. We're heading up to (Washington) Canada. In the last couple of months Stefan had been talking to a potential employer up in Richmond, British Columbia , and after a very swift interview process they offered him the job. Small and large details aside, he accepted and plans to start on February 25th. We leave one week earlier, on the 18th. That's literally just over 2 weeks from when you will read this. We told family and close friends first, and while we haven't been keeping it a huge secret, our church, as a whole, did not know until last night because it was then we could tell everyone at our seasonal congregational meeting what our plans were in person, and with many of them all at once. I didn't want to say anything online until that happened. We've been steadily spending heaps of time with friends and family, all while slowly p...
