Visitor #2: Through the Front Door

Sorry for the delay, I've had a loss of words for the past week or two. I just don't want to babble on my blog, but make each post about some "event" or member of our family, or at least as an excuse to take some cute pictures of Lukka. As I was checking my email last Saturday, I noticed a mini-van drive by our house a few times...slowing down next to our house and then coming back...hmm. After the third 'drive-by', two ladies got out and one came up to our house, and peeked in our living room window! Hey, if you're shameless enough to do that, I'm shameless enough to open the door and ask, "you wanna take a look inside?" --of course, knowing that these people saw our For Sale sign in the yard...I AM shameless enough to try to get anyone who's interested inside! They loved it, especially the kitchen, which is very updated for how old the house is. Hopefully we'll hear something soon! (or not, at least it gave us some more confidence, especially in the bitter weather!) So in 3 weeks of it being listed, 2 groups wanted to look inside!

On another note, just stopped by some friends' of ours house today to see their little one-weeker! She's so cute and has so much hair! (I hope she doesn't loose it) I am taking over some soup next week (they have people coming over all week--how awesome) and am doing their laundry today, but is there anything else you can think of to serve this family? I would rather not just "buy them another thing" but actually do something. I would love the suggestions!

What a sweet friend you are to bring a meal! That was always a huge help to me. My friends also brought some "frezer meals". They stocked my freezer so much that I didn't have to cook for 2 enitre months! Any casserole you can make will likely freeze well. Also, the blueberry bran muffins (recipe at my blog) I make freeze great, and would keep them in a healthy and quick breakfast for quite a while. OH! Or you could offer to stop by for a "nap visit". You hold and care for little on while mom &/ dad nap...or go on a date...or do whatever they want.

I have a 4 month old little guy with a terrible cold today (read: insists on being hled 24/7), so it's easy for me to think of ways someone could help ;)

Home School Activities: Board Games We Love

My children have recently become enthralled in the world of board games. I was never a board game player. Sure, I remember long summer hours (days? it seemed like it..) spent around a Monopoly board, but I was never one to suggest to get out the cards, or a game. As my children have grown and they are now able to do activities with me, I started noticing that they really took to puzzles (when done all together) and the one or two board games I happened to have kept in the storage room. They were always asking to play Candy Land and so I figured I should branch off a bit. Over the course of the last year, I have found GREAT games, even ones that I love to play alongside them. The amount of 'teaching' they have gotten through games is jaw-dropping. Counting, team-playing, math related patterning, are just some of the skills I've watched develop. It's a list of where I find games, books, crafts, and fresh inspiration. Also included are articles I've loved about home schooling. One of my favorite websites about homeschooling, updated daily, is Simple Homeschool . It's a shoot off branch of SimpleKids & SimpleMoms, and they often have great giveaways, advice, and have concise and interesting topics. A friend recently guided me to World Book Online to find the general requirements of each grade. At the curriculum fair I went to in April, I remembered two vendors that I want to revisit if they return.
