Vala's Pumpkin Patch

Vala's Pumpkin Patch is the epitome of Halloween here in Nebraska. It is a number of acres of fun stuff to do with kids around Harvest Time. This year we waited until October 30th to go, and with some friends, it was a beautiful day and there was hardly anyone there! (however, we did go in the morning!) Here's Lukka watching the Old Scarecrow Gang perform.

Lukka loved the John Deer tractor! He could hardly fit his little bum on the seat and reach the wheel at the same time, but he didn't care! A farm boy for sure, we'll have to get him together with his cousins who live on a farm, they could show him a thing or two on that tractor!
They have a small area where there are goats, mules, and even a camel to feed! Although we didn't have any change with us, they still stuck out their noses to be rubbed! A hayrack ride, a 'haunted mine' and some great harvest food made this one fun fieldtrip!

Home School Activities: Board Games We Love

My children have recently become enthralled in the world of board games. I was never a board game player. Sure, I remember long summer hours (days? it seemed like it..) spent around a Monopoly board, but I was never one to suggest to get out the cards, or a game. As my children have grown and they are now able to do activities with me, I started noticing that they really took to puzzles (when done all together) and the one or two board games I happened to have kept in the storage room. It's a list of where I find games, books, crafts, and fresh inspiration. Also included are articles I've loved about home schooling. One of my favorite websites about homeschooling, updated daily, is Simple Homeschool . It's a shoot off branch of SimpleKids & SimpleMoms, and they often have great giveaways, advice, and have concise and interesting topics. A friend recently guided me to World Book Online to find the general requirements of each grade. At the curriculum fair I went to in April, I remembered two vendors that I want to revisit if they return. Lukka's Birthday Interview // 17

17! You're FINALLY 17! You can drive independently, and you have read the manual, watched professional drivers and gleaned tips from others about this test that you've been dreaming about for years. You were given a car by a friend of ours, cleaned it to perfection, fixed it up in places, and have driven your sister and friends all over for the past week in near-unbridled joy. I am so happy for you (and I'd be lying if I wasn't happy for me, too)! You are such a mature and kind-hearted young man. You have big plans and are taking the steps to proactively execute them.
