Estate Sale Luck!

I love to go garage sale-ing and bargain hunting. My favorite, though, are estate sales. I always try to talk to the family a bit, since obviously someone just passed and is a friend or relative of those running the sale. The stuff I love to find is usually quirky, mid-century objects in need of a new home. The other day as I was driving back home with the kids, I noticed an Estate Sale sign and did a turn around to go find it. I told the kids we were going on a treasure hunt and Lu soaked that right up.
I.scored.big. These pictures are just a small fraction of what I got, but almost everything was 25cents, 50cents, or $1....and I spent $39! The top picture shows an old sewing stool I'm going to make over, some embroidery hoops, a tiny fraction of the linens/fabric I got (!!! my favorite!!!), a mint condition embroidery pattern book from 1963 (hilarious), a suitcase, and two unused Avon collectibles--a Japanese fish oil holder & some button soaps. :)
The next picture shows my favorite find. The lady had 5 wire hanging fruit baskets and I've been looking for one forever. I took the two best home (the red one was tangled in the picture, but Stefan got it right again) and will keep the steel one in it's original color, but the rust red I'll be spray painting. The two sun tea jars were a steal for 25cents. A little creamer & pitcher with the Star of David for $2, and down below....

Not Shown: Sorry, my best unfortunately didn't get a picture. I also bought an antique dresser + mirror that needs some TLC for $10 and a TON of fabric/linens/curtains/aprons! I can't WAIT to dive into that pile. I already have about 5 projects on the brain for certain patterns. One tablecloth + 6 napkins were beautifully handstitched (the stitches are just incredibly small) that she probably received for a gift. Love it.

AWESOME! I've just started getting into the world of garage sales...before having kids I never really needed much from them! :-) Now I'm all about it with clothes, toys, etc! :-) Love the vintage finds!

Home School Resources: Links we Love

It's a list of where I find games, books, crafts, and fresh inspiration. Also included are articles I've loved about home schooling. One of my favorite websites about homeschooling, updated daily, is Simple Homeschool . It's a shoot off branch of SimpleKids & SimpleMoms, and they often have great giveaways, advice, and have concise and interesting topics. A friend recently guided me to World Book Online to find the general requirements of each grade. At the curriculum fair I went to in April, I remembered two vendors that I want to revisit if they return.
