Saturday Special: February Usborne Specials

Every month, on the first Saturday of the month I will be giving the details of the monthly specials. There is one standard 'special' that runs every month--buy $40 worth of books and snag any of these books (they rotate monthly) for 60% off the regular sale price. There are 10 titles that are on special every month, ranging in age and content. Above, the Lift the Flap Word Book is one of the more popular books on sale this month, and at $5.00, you're saving $6.99! See the complete list of February sale titles here. This is a great buy to have on hand for a gift for a child, family relative, baby shower, or first birthday. Usborne is known for their 'flap books', and this is one children learning vocabulary. The flaps are very sturdy and with all of my flap books that we've owned, we've never had one rip--they are made very well!

They also have incentive for booking home shows and being a hostess for an Usborne consultant, and February's hostess special is that if you have a home-show and be a hostess before the 15th, Usborne is going to give you $50 in FREE product, simply for opening your home for an hour and a half, at an average show of $350. This amount ($50 in free product) increases with every level of product sold. If you book a show from Feb. 16-29, you get an extra $25 worth of FREE product on top of your normal free amount, for hosting a show. The incentive is to have a show soon, the early bird gets the worm! Here is a list of the dollar amount you can earn in Usborne books simply for having your friends over for an hour and a half, and letting me present these fabulous books!

The last special for the month of February is really, really good. To become a consultant, your kit to operate (which includes 8 books along with all the materials and instructions to excel) is only $29...this is very low, and about covers the cost of 2 books plus shipping! This is a serious steal, since you're getting roughly $40 in books for free! If you've ever loved these books and want to add them to your library, now is the time to do that. See here for more information, and the books that will come in your kit. If you're wanting to become a consultant here is the signup.

Lastly, don't forget to sign up on my page for the free $50 in Usborne Books that is on the website. This is a national drawing that renews every month so you have 12 chances to win it over the year!

Important: New consultants (me) get an incentive period that lasts 12 weeks, and since I signed up at a good time, I get 16 weeks, or until April 18th to offer my clients "Double Free" rewards for having a home show. If the home show generates $350 in book sales (this is an average sale for a home show), the hostess, YOU, are entitled to $160 worth of FREE BOOKS. That is an amazing way to start your home library with quality literature and non-fiction for your family. I'm also offering the host, YOU, an extra free book ($19.99 and under) on top of your $160 free earned...just for having me in your home and presenting these wonderful books to your friends and family. People, that's $180.00 in free Usborne Books. Don't delay, I only have until mid-April to offer you this great deal~ Email me at for setting up a day and time.

How To: DIY Sand/Water Table

How To: Build A Sand/Water Table for Under $30!
Sorry this took me so long to blog, but I had to have a tool list and full instructions before I could do so.
A little history on my love for the sand/water table. I love the idea behind tools for tiny hands, i.e. the Montessori Method, and like to have Lukka 'figure things out for himself', even when he is playing. I try to have the most simple and basic toys available for 3 reasons: a) simple toys generally have less parts, which means less of a hassle for me
b) simple toys inspire way more creativity and imagination than do 'exact replica' toys
c) they are much more aesthetically pleasing to look at, therefore, not making every nook and cranny of our house an eyesore!
I know the last reason is just for me, but it's true. Plastic things don't generally last 1/2 as long as wooden or fabric toys, and they are unattractive. For this reason, I started to look for a wooden sand/water table as opposed to a plastic one …

Snapshot Story of Malibu, Lake Louise Inlet, British Columbia

top photo: The Blainiacs; self-titled, our group from bible study

There are too many words to share everything about Malibu, so I'm going to share a few pictures, and some words in this post. Malibu is a Young Life camp that is it's own little village in the middle of nowhere, British Columbia, or at least it feels that way--very isolated. It's right at the top of Lake Louise Inlet (right before Lake Louise) but really, there is nothing out there. It is what a leader called "The Thin Place"; the place right in the middle of heaven and earth. It's beautiful, welcoming, joyful, and raw, pristine.

This lodge is where "Club" happens. This is where the large group of the 220+ women who were present for Women's Weekend  would get together twice daily for skits, singing, and hearing speakers before breaking out into small group time. The Women's Weekend follows the Young Life way in how they structure the retreat. Everything we did resembled what t…

Subscription Boxes as Homeschool Curriculum

Ani painting her first diarama
The subscription service business sector is exploding the online retail market. You can now buy toys, pet products, clothing, stationary, beauty products, eco-cleaning supplies, and even organic snacks all in monthly packages with excellent branding. While print magazines are slowly fading away, a new type of subscription purchasing is taking place in droves--for those who are too busy or depleted to run one more errand (hand raised here), you can get a fun surprise on your doorstep for a decent price. These are excellent as curriculum because all the work of planning and gathering has been done for you! Now it's just up to the child to execute and enjoy the process.
I have tried a few subscription services as either birthday gifts or a trial run for homeschooling, and let me tell you there are some awesome businesses going up! I want to highlight a few of them for you that can be used as homeschooling curriculum for elementary grade kids. With each…
