20 Things in 2020


Every year I type out a list of 10-20 items that I want to complete in the year. Some are silly, some are big, some are (potentially) life-changing, but they are written here, and written in my journal at home that I use near-daily, so they are around and 'out there'. It helps keep me accountable to plan intentionally our weekends, fitting things in I want to make space for, whether they're an afternoon roller-skating or following a specific way of eating for 30+ days. If it matters to you, make space for it.

 People ask me how I accomplish so much, and I *know* it's because I plan ahead of time, and am intentional about putting it on the calendar weeks, if not months in advance. Maybe once in a blue moon it's days in advance. Having the life you want takes a lot of work and a lot of thought, it doesn't happen by chance. How few things in your life that you're proud of, that you worked hard for, just fell into your lap? Yeah, I can't think of very many, either!

Quite a few of these are, noticably "bucket list" items that will happen in Europe, this summer when we're there. I haven't been there in nearly 15 years, and we've intentionally saved points for 3.5 years so that we could go for (mostly) free. Some of them are open because I want to stew a bit before I make all of them. It might even be July before a few of these get filled, but when I know, I'll write them down.  Again, nothing big happens if you don't plan ahead for it. I am super excited for 2020!~

With that, my 20 things in 2020

1) Go rollerskating at least once.

2) Cheer on a team at a roller-derby.

3) Hike in the Swiss Alps like Heidi!

4) Become a Canadian Citizen. Oy vey, the paperwork!

5) Write in a children's lit. magazine.

6) Ski at a new mountain.

7) Try keto for at least 30 days.

8) Watch the Lipizanners at the Spanish Riding School in Vienna.

9) Go to a Monster Truck Ralley.

10) Go to the ballet Shen Yun with Ani.

11) Visit Savannah, Georgia.

12) Start investing a portion of income in mutual funds.

13) Watch the netflix series: Heartstrings with Dolly Parton.

14) Punch my homemade frames (from last year).

15) Renew my PR card (oh, how I hate these tasks!)

Home School Activities: Board Games We Love

My children have recently become enthralled in the world of board games. I was never a board game player. Sure, I remember long summer hours (days? it seemed like it..) spent around a Monopoly board, but I was never one to suggest to get out the cards, or a game. As my children have grown and they are now able to do activities with me, I started noticing that they really took to puzzles (when done all together) and the one or two board games I happened to have kept in the storage room. July Reads

Birch Bay Sunset, rainbow hues July has been hot out here. When you live in the top story of an apartment building, and there's no air conditioning, it can feel just over the needle of uncomfortably warm when the day is above 76 degrees. We've kept blinds shut, windows open, and a fan continually blowing as it's perched in our living room window well. Top 10 Books of 2017

early sunset in Ft Langley  I love reading all these "Top 10" lists of favorite books read throughout the year, so I'm adding my two cents.  I'm involved in a Book Club that I love with women from our church, a small group that meets every week and goes through a book every few months, my own list, books I'm reading aloud to the kids and  books I'm reading for educational purposes (think professional development). I took a look at all of those combined and this is what I got, in no particular order:  *  The Problem of God  by Mark Clark - I loved going through this academic apologetic book with my friends from church. It led us to great discussion, and good food for thought. I listen to Clark's sermons every week and so knew I'd probably love his writing style, too. If you have objections to Christianity, or are feeling confused about what to believe, this is a great primer.  * You're Smarter Than You Think  by Dr. Thomas Armstron
